Turn It Off
Open up Terminal from /Applications/Utilities and enter the following command to kill Spotlight entirely (you’ll need administrative privileges to execute the command):
sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist
NOTE: This will also recent you from searching through stuff like emails.
If you need to reverse this step then run the following command.
sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist
Another way to exclude specific folders from being indexed is to manually hide folders using a special extension
To prevent a specific folder or file from being indexed by Spotlight, add a “.noindex” extension to it’s name.
